Monthly, millions of parts leave the company's factory production lines
in Mogi das Cruzes (SP) and supply the Brazilian and international markets
Sao Paulo, May 2022 – NGK, a Japanese multinational manufacturer and specialist in spark plugs, announces that it has reached a new historic milestone in Brazil. The company has just surpassed the level of 2.5 billion spark plugs produced at its factory located in Mogi das Cruzes (SP). Every month, millions of pieces leave its production lines to supply the Brazilian and South American markets, as well as countries such as Mexico, the United States, France, Japan and Indonesia.
“Reaching the significant milestone of 2.5 billion spark plugs manufactured in Mogi das Cruzes represents a great achievement for NGK do Brasil. This achievement is a reflection of the recognition obtained both from the original market and from the aftermarket in relation to the high quality of Brazilian products, which follow the same quality standard delivered by our headquarters in Japan”, says Ishii Shuei, corporate director of NGK.
To produce each spark plug, NGK do Brasil employs around 150 technological manufacturing processes, interspersed with several electronic and visual checks that guarantee excellence in product quality.
Every year, the company invests in the modernization of its facilities to maintain its leadership in the market and expand its production capacity. With 75,500 m² of built area, the Brazilian branch houses one of the company's six technology centers in the world, where it develops products with a high level of embedded technology in attention to the changes taking place in the world.
NGK do Brasil is a leader in the aftermarket and one of the main suppliers of original ignition system components, with several awards in terms of quality. In more than 60 years of operation in Brazil, the company has produced more than 2.5 billion spark plugs and more than 310 million ignition cables, in addition to marketing ignition coils and glow plugs under the NGK brand and oxygen sensors under the NTK brand.
Environment
With the objective of promoting the sustainability of its operations, NGK develops a series of initiatives aligned with the global program Ecovision 2030, which sets goals for responding to climate change, expanding environmentally friendly products, conserving water resources and managing waste.
Among the projects is the solar energy system implemented in 2021 by the company, which already owns the largest photovoltaic system in the Alto Tietê region. On average, NGK generates 150 MWh/month, which yields savings of 7% in consumption. For 2022, the plan is to expand the photovoltaic system to increase generation capacity by 36%.
