Company adopts a series of initiatives to reduce CO emissions2, conservation of water resources and waste management
São Paulo, March 2023 - A NGK, World leader in the production of spark plugs, prioritizes initiatives that promote the company's sustainable growth in Brazil. An example of this is the plan to expand the solar plant installed inside its plant in Mogi das Cruzes (SP) still in 2023 and the fulfillment of the goal of avoiding the emission of 250 tons of CO2 in the current fiscal year, which closes this March.
To complete the ongoing project, NGK is seeking partners to increase industrial waste recycling and reduce sludge generation from its wastewater treatment plants. The company is responsible for the reprocessing of 90% of the waste (180 tons per month) and recycling 70% of the water used (21000 m³ per month) by means of a treatment plant for the reuse of effluents from the plant itself.
"We are committed to achieving the goals set out in the global sustainability program "Ecovision", says Nivaldo Yano, Head of the Environmental Control Department of NGK do Brasil. "Some actions were implemented to reduce water consumption in the production process, which uses 80% of the total consumed by the company. In this sense, The expectation is for a 5% reduction in this value by 2030."
Largest photovoltaic system in the Alto Tietê region
In March 2021, NGK installed more than three thousand solar power generation panels in partnership with EDP in its national plant and became the owner of the largest photovoltaic system in the Alto Tietê region. "Thinking globally and acting locally brings significant results for the sustainability of the company in general", comments Yano. The project aims to reduce the environmental impact throughout the chain of generation and transmission of electricity from the matrices installed in the country.
"Reduce CO emissions2 is among the main efforts of NGK do Brasil", Yano points out. "So much so that we announced, in April 2022, the investment of R$ 2 million to expand the capacity of the solar power plant by 36%, responsible for the generation of 150 MWh/month, which provides a saving of 7% in the consumption of our factory."
