São Paulo, December 2022 - With the evolutions of the rules of the PL7 - Vehicle Air Pollution Control Program, and NGK, Japanese multinational ignition systems specialist, fulfills its sustainable commitment by updating its products and carrying out projects that contribute to a more conscious industry.
The PL7, also called Proconve L7, sets limits for new vehicles to be marketed. These rules include lowering emission levels so that the automotive industry and its suppliers adapt and develop new products that meet the current standard. Reductions in emission limits in Proconve promote technological developments in cars, such as the use of more efficient electronic injection systems and catalysts and motors.
"NGK is a company that cares about the environment and has a number of internal policies to reduce the environmental impact on its production process", afirma Hiromori Mori, NGK Technical Assistance Consultant. "Policies to reduce the emission levels of environmental pollutants by motor vehicles are aligned with the company's internal policies, which uses noble metal candles, like platinum and iridium, to help with the performance of the ignition system and ensure better burning of the air-fuel mixture."
Changes and trends imposed by PL7
As principais alterações promovidas pela fase 7 do Proconve dizem respeito às emissões evaporativas, where a vehicle that is parked can emit into the atmosphere by evaporating the fuel tank or gasoline tank for cold start. Another significant change is that now car manufacturers must ensure emission levels by a higher mileage, que passou de 80 mil quilômetros para 160 mil quilômetros.
For the NGK specialist, the automotive repair market must undergo a major evolution on this topic. "The limits of mixing adaptation will be further reduced in the most modern vehicles and, like so, the anomaly indicator light in the operation of the system must be, showing the user that there is a problem in the vehicle", Mori explains.
"This fact reveals to the driver that there is a need for maintenance before the vehicle even begins to fail", highlights Mori. "We must move out of a culture of corrective maintenance and migrate to a preventive maintenance environment. This process does not happen from one hour to another, but it needs to occur."
Sustainable projects
In addition to changes in the productive environment, NGK has initiatives that meet programs to reduce emissions levels that encompass other forms of environmental preservation. Among them stand out:
