NGK points out what care the driver needs to take with the vehicle and driving
Sao Paulo, February 2022 – With Carnival approaching, many plan to make that trip to enjoy the days of revelry with family or friends. Before hitting the road, the driver should check that the vehicle has been serviced in order to ensure safety and reduce fuel consumption in times of high prices. In order to help the driver to have a smooth trip, NGK – a Japanese multinational ignition system specialist – has listed some recommendations.
According to Hiromori Mori, NGK's Technical Assistance consultant, the driver should always consult the maintenance plan in the car's manual, which presents the description of the periodic inspections and the list of parts that must be replaced preventively and the checkpoints. “If you do not have the manual, the driver can locate all the information on the plan on the vehicle manufacturer's website”, he guides.
When it comes to fuel consumption, two car systems should receive extra attention when programming the service: the ignition system - which provides the spark to correctly burn the air/fuel mixture - and the injection system - responsible for injecting the amount correct fuel supply to ensure proper engine operating conditions.
After consulting the maintenance plan, the driver needs to carry out the scheduled inspection, which allows him to plan maintenance expenses, as well as take the car to a reliable workshop and choose the parts to be fitted to the vehicle. “Keeping the car service up to date can avoid a series of inconveniences on the holiday, such as the loss of the trip caused by a break in the road, the high cost of the repair, the lack of parts, the risk to the physical integrity of the occupants and the high fuel consumption”, points out Mori.
According to NGK, scheduled maintenance is considered essential for fuel economy because it allows the vehicle to work at its best. “A failure that goes unnoticed can make it difficult to start the engine, cause malfunctions and damage other components, in order to increase fuel consumption. Not to mention the aggression to the environment, with the increase in the emission of pollutants”, warns the specialist.
