With a more competitive price than gasoline in recent weeks, Ethanol has been the first choice of many drivers when it comes to refueling. Although, the arrival of cold days can make this choice mean more inconvenience when starting the car, especially for maintenance free vehicles. To avoid the problem, it is necessary that the auxiliary cold start systems are up to date with the revision, as well as with the ignition components.

According to NGK Technical Assistance consultant, Hiromori Mori, worn spark plugs can also cause difficulties in starting., that's why, it is important that drivers periodically check the component. "For the starting auxiliary system to work properly, the ignition system must be in order", explains the expert.

In more modern vehicles, the auxiliary starting systems have the function of heating the fuel when the engine temperature is below 14ºC and the filling has taken place with ethanol. How does this system need a lot of power to work, forcing its use with the spark plug worn out can cause battery problems and failure.. The same occurs in cars that have a gas tank, also called "six pack".

"In this case, an important tip is for the car owner to clean the tank and replace the gasoline with the arrival of lower temperatures, to ensure the proper functioning of the system", comments Hiromori Mori.

NGK recommends that the spark plug be inspected as directed in the vehicle manual, every 10,000 kilometers or annually. It is also important to check the conditions of the cables - responsible for conducting the high voltage produced by the coil to the spark plugs - whenever the system undergoes overhaul.
