NGK, the world's leading manufacturer of spark plugs, ignition cables and oxygen sensors, continues to supply its sails during the 2012 Formula 1 season to McLaren and Ferrari cars. The renewal of partnerships for the current season shows the quality and reliability of products manufactured by the Japanese-sourced company, capable of serving one of the most demanding markets in the world. "We are very proud to associate the brand with a team like McLaren, which is always competing for titles and has two of the best drivers today," says Brian Childs, NGK's managing director in Europe. The Brazilian stage of this Formula 1 season, the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix, takes place between 23 and 25 November and can define the titles of drivers and constructors. Ferrari By the end of last year NGK had already announced that, for the 12th consecutive year, it would equip Formula One Ferrari engines with its sails. In addition, the company actively participated in the development of the new engine eight-cylinder 056 of the Italian team, which keeps Fernando Alonso in a position to fight for the title of the season, in addition to leading once again the Brazilian driver Felipe Massa to fight for a home podium in the race held at the Interlagos Racetrack. "In all these years as Ferrari's official supplier, we have collected important achievements, which include eight world championships," says Norbert Schmalfuss, NGK's General Manager of Sales and Marketing in Europe. "NGK proves once again that it has the best and toughest spark plugs in the world, capable of supporting the wear and tear provided by such fast vehicles," he concludes. More about spark plugs The function of the spark plug is to conduct electrical current under high voltage into the combustion chamber, converting it into spark to ignite the air/fuel mixture. Despite its simple appearance, it is a piece that requires high technology in its elaboration, since its correct maintenance is directly linked to the performance of the engine, to the levels of fuel consumption and to the greater or lesser emission of pollutants, among others.
