NGK celebrates 63 years of operation in Brazil

Japanese multinational is one of the main suppliers
of original country ignition system components

Sao Paulo, July 2022 – NGK, the global leader in the spark plug market, completes 63 years of national operation on August 1st. The multinational arrived in Brazil in 1959 and installed its first factory outside Japan in Mogi das Cruzes (SP). Currently, the company has a strong presence on all continents.

With 625,000 m², the plant located in the Cocuera neighborhood is responsible for employing more than 1,300 professionals who produce automotive components, such as spark plugs, ignition cables and suppressive terminals. The factory also has one of the company's six technology centers in the world.

According to Yuki Izuoka, president of NGK do Brasil, the company's entire trajectory is accompanied by innovation. “We celebrate 63 years marked by the production of high technology components, with guaranteed application, original quality and availability in the market to fully serve our customers”, he says.

Automotive market leadership

NGK is one of the main suppliers of original ignition system components and a leader in the national aftermarket. In 63 years, the company has reached the historic mark of 2.5 billion spark plugs produced, in addition to exceeding 310 million ignition cables. The company also sells ignition coils and glow plugs under the NGK brand and oxygen sensors under the NTK brand.

The company's history is also accompanied by its commitment to the environment, through the promotion of a series of initiatives aligned with the global program Ecovision 2030, which sets goals for responding to climate change, expanding environmentally friendly products, conserving water resources and managing waste.

Among the projects aimed at sustainability of operations is the solar energy system implemented in 2021 by the factory, which already has the largest photovoltaic system in the Alto Tietê region. On average, NGK generates 150 MWh/month, which yields savings of 7% in consumption. For 2022, the plan is to expand the photovoltaic system to increase generation capacity by 36%.

NGK also highlights waste management as one of its priorities - so much so that the company already reprocesses 90% of its waste and recycles 70% of the water used through an effluent treatment plant at the factory itself, with a focus on reducing environmental impacts. in the region.
