The spark plug has the function of conducting electrical current under high voltage into the combustion chamber., performing the spark conversion to ignite the air/fuel mixture, in addition to allowing the dissipation of heat generated in combustion. A worn spark plug will compromise performance, fuel consumption and, consequently, the emission of pollutants. It can also affect various components, like ignition cables, rotor, distributor and coil/transformer. In more serious cases, Catalyst problems can be found.
The function of the ignition cables is to conduct the high voltage produced by the coil to the spark plugs, without allowing current leakage.
