NGK SPARK PLUG announces name change from April 2023

New name Niterra reflects business expansion journey,
in line with ongoing changes in the industry

São Paulo, July 2022 – A NGK SPARK PLUG, global leader in the spark plug market, announces its shareholders' decision to change the group's name in English to Niterra. The new name – which will take effect at the beginning of the next fiscal year, on April 1, 2023 – reflects the Company's journey for the continued expansion of its business, in line with the ongoing transformations in the automotive industry.

By combining the Latin words niteo and terra, what do they mean, respectively, “shine” and “planet earth”, the name Niterra expresses the group's commitment to contributing to both a more sustainable society and a brighter planet. While Niterra will be the global name, as marcas NGK Spark Plug (automotive components) this NTK (sensors and cutting tools) will be kept for the respective businesses.

Since the group's founding, em Nagoya, in Japan, in 1936, NGK SPARK PLUG is recognized as synonymous with spark plugs and positions itself as a world market leader. The line of business related to internal combustion engines, Yet, comprises a portion of the company, which has also achieved significant success in other areas, as sensors and technical ceramics.

Thus, the name change to Niterra aims to express the group's attitude towards building the future by expanding its business portfolio, solidifying itself as an environmentally sustainable growing company, as per the NGK SPARK PLUG 2030 Long-Term Management Plan, that establishes the direction of the organization in four different segments: Mobility; Medicine; Meio Ambiente &; Energy; and Communications.
