A NGK, leading candle maker, ignition cables and oxygen sensors of the world, attests to the effectiveness of the second lambda probe, marketed under the NTK brand, in improving air quality. The company alerts drivers and auto mechanics professionals to the role of the device in the control of pollutant emissions from the automotive engine, in addition to contributing to the reduction of fuel consumption. From 2011 onwards, the installation of the second lambda probe is now mandatory for engines that use spark plugs to start burning fuel, that is, all gasoline powered light vehicles, ethanol or CNG. The rule was determined by resolution 354/2004 of the National Council for the Environment (Conama). A sonda lambda, or oxygen sensor as it is also known., Its function is to analyze the condition of fuel burning and detect oxygen levels in the engine exhaust gases, reporting the quality of the air and fuel mixture to the vehicle's control unit (ECU). The device compares the oxygen concentration in the engine gases with ambient air, enabling the adjustment of the amount of fuel injected into the combustion chamber. The second lambda probe, in its turn, is installed in the vehicle's exhaust system, after the catalyst, and evaluates the gases that have already gone through the action of this device. The second probe does not act directly on the mixture information, but checking if the first probe and catalyst are achieving the expected results in correcting the mixture. This system is called OBD-BR2, On-Board Diagnostics, (from English, on-board diagnosis system). "The main gains of the second lambda probe are the more efficient control of pollutant emissions and fuel savings generated with the use of the device", says Ricardo Namie, Head of Technical Assistance at NGK/NTK. The specialist warns that the improper use of the part can cause a drop in engine performance, difficulty in the match, failures, reduction in coil and distributor life, in addition to causing advanced damage to the catalyst. The component is available for commercialization in both the OEM original market, called OEM, how much for the aftermarket, ou aftermarket. “NTK offers the best product and service, giving the consumer the certainty that, in addition to superior quality and performance, he is acquiring an environmentally friendly component in all production processes", Finalize Namie.
