Spark plug wear can cause inconvenience. This is because the component is directly related to the performance of the engine. The alert is from NGK, World's largest manufacturer and specialist of ignition system components. With the arrival of the July holidays, when traffic on the roads increases, the company's Technical Assistance consultant, Hiromori Mori, highlights the importance of revision and, if necessary, The exchange for new components.

According to the expert, Spark plugs with excessive wear or irregular functioning can cause engine failures, in addition to difficulties in starting the car, increased fuel consumption and pollutant emission levels.

"The irregular operation of the spark plug is not always noticed by the driver. Due to technological evolution, the engines are conditioned to work in adverse situations and, principally, When there is a failure onset. When the problem begins to be noticed, it's a sign that it's been happening for some time", alert the expert. The component works under very severe conditions, such as high temperatures and pressure and, with use, suffers a natural wear and tear.

In the vehicle maintenance and warranty manual there is a table with the exchange plan specified by the automaker. NGK recommends reviewing and inspecting the part every 10.000 kilometers or annually, what comes first.

In addition to avoiding inconvenience, preventive maintenance generates savings. Spark plugs with excessive wear can reduce the life of cables, coils, transformer, distributor and catalyst. Industry research states that the repair cost is usually 30% more expensive.

Possible engine problems, like excess fuel, Oil and coolant seepage into the combustion chamber and poor fuel quality use can also be identified by visual inspection of the spark plug. NGK's Technical Assistance consultant explains that the appearance of the part says a lot about the condition of the engine and, that's why, should be prioritized in any preventive review.

ignition cables

The ignition cables, which conduct the high voltage produced by the coil up to the candles, also need periodic checking, which should be done together with the candles. For CNG-powered cars (Vehicular natural gas), The revisions must be carried out every 30 thousand kilometers.

The technician points out that each vehicle has a model of spark plug and appropriate ignition cable, as per Application Table and owner's manual. The use of unsuitable parts may damage other vehicle components.
